Auberon by James S.A. Corey
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Although rather expensive for such a short book, I pre-ordered it as I want to have all of the great series "The Expanse".
Bearing the high price in mind - I think a collection of the short-stories and novellas is planned - which might have an ok price - this is 4 stars and highly recommended, you should know the other books, as a standalone too much is missing, and as this is 8.5, read it shortly after Tiamat's Wrath #8.

Review: Insidious Intent
Insidious Intent by Val McDermid
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Wow!
After again some wrong choices in books, I tend to fall back to my favourite authors, and this one is one of the best. Strong writing, good personal stuff integrated with the case, technology (internet, social media, online bullying etc.) up-to-date and correct, entirely believable.
Read this series from the beginning, in between watching the TV-Series a second time, shame it was so short-lived - bought "Traces" on iTunes without realizing until seeing it, that it was also a Val McDermid production (and with Laura Fraser), recommend it highly and hope for more Seasons.
This can be read as a standalone, but you will miss out on some very good writing.
Not a lot of twists, until near the end, but the hunt for the killer is suspenseful enough to be a page-turner (at least for me).
Not sure, wether the entire series had any bad or lesser books, might warrant a re-read...
But this is surely one of the best, highly recommended and 5stars. Will read the next book in the series now.

Review: Catch Your Death
Catch Your Death by Louise Voss
My rating: 1 of 5 stars
Liked the blurb, skimmed a few of the reviews, and ...
Will only FF this book from now on, the jumps in the timeline do not make this anymore suspenseful, I don't like all of the characters - where are the strong, single, independent females when you need them?
How can a story with such an interesting idea be so dull?
Bought this with 2 other books by the same author which I will most probably not even start.
Jumped to the last 2-3 chapters and skimmed them, nothing to save the book.
DNF/Abandoned at 23%. And it took me too long get there.

Review: Spartan Destiny
Spartan Destiny by Jennifer Estep
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Pre-ordered - as I liked the other books in the series and the Frost series by Estep!
Again I really liked this one, 4 stars recommended, a little romance, no sex, great friendships and teamwork, very good fighting scenes and colourful descriptions of places and rooms.
Will probably not work when read out of order or as a standalone, you should read all books in the series in order.
Nice cozy feel-good-read, for some it may be less than 4 stars for being predictable when you have read the Frost series, but given my choice of bad books in 2019 I needed this.
